Downtown Selma, Alabama is in need of revitalization. As a studio we established the need for affordable short term housing in the city that would promote visitors staying longer than one day. This is the current standard which prevents small businesses from flourishing. By designing a hostel this would provide space for large groups as well as individuals to stay multiple days. While this proposed business, paired with a restaurant and bar, is currently a positive direction for the town, this may not always be the case. It is because of this that I developed three consecutive plans: a hostel, hotel and live work program. These three proposals can transition with minimal construction by preemptively designing redundancy in the plans.
